6-Year-Old Indian Girl Assaulted in Ireland: Growing Concern Over Racial Violence

In a shocking and deeply disturbing incident, a six-year-old Indian girl was physically assaulted and racially abused while playing outside her home in Waterford City, Ireland. This marks the third reported attack against Indian nationals in recent days, highlighting the growing concerns of racial violence targeting the Indian community in Ireland.

A distressed Indian mother holding her young daughter outside their home in Waterford, Ireland, after a reported racist attack.

The young victim, Nia Naveen, was reportedly attacked by a gang of older boys and a girl. According to her mother, Anupa Achuthan, the assailants punched her daughter in the face and neck, twisted her hair, and used a bicycle wheel to press against her private parts. In addition to the physical assault, they hurled racial slurs, shouting phrases like “Dirty Indian” and “Go back to India.”

Achuthan, who recently became an Irish citizen after living in the country for eight years, expressed deep sadness over the incident. “I feel so sad for her. I could not protect her… I never expected that such an incident would happen here,” she said.

The incident occurred while Achuthan briefly stepped inside to feed her infant son. Nia came running back into the house, traumatized and unable to speak. A friend later confirmed the horrific details of the attack.

They Were Laughing at Me

Achuthan later identified the group of children loitering in the neighborhood, claiming they stared at her and laughed, knowing she was the mother of the assaulted child. “The boys were maybe 12 to 14 years old… They were just roaming around and staring at me,” she added.

Despite the trauma, Achuthan doesn’t seek harsh punishment for the children involved but urges that they receive proper counselling. “If the kids are doing this, we must stop them and educate them on proper behavior.”

Indian Embassy Issues Advisory

In light of recent incidents, the Indian Embassy in Ireland issued an advisory on August 1, urging Indian citizens to be cautious and avoid deserted areas, especially during odd hours.
