Paytm Launches New 4G Visual Soundbox with Digital Display and Solar Power

At the Startup Mahakumbh event, Paytm Founder & CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma unveiled a new version of the company’s renowned soundbox, this time with a visual makeover.

Unlike the previous model, which simply provided audio payment confirmations, the new 4G Visual Soundbox includes a digital screen that shows transaction amounts in real time, total balance, and device status. It’s solar-powered, has a long battery life, and supports 11 Indian languages.

“The new soundbox displays the overall balance and number of payments received without declaring them aloud. “This provides merchants with a more discreet and secure experience,” Sharma said at the launch.

Key Highlights

  • Connectivity: 4G-enabled for faster and seamless updates
  • Digital Screen: Displays payment amount, collection summary, and device status
  • Solar-Powered: Eco-friendly and ideal for remote or outdoor vendors
  • Battery Life: Up to 10 days on a single charge
  • Language Support: Available in 11 Indian languages
  • Cost: No extra cost for new features—available immediately

A Smarter, Safer Way to Accept Payments

This visual upgrade is designed with merchant convenience in mind. With India’s small businesses relying heavily on UPI and QR code-based payments, this device offers:

  • Privacy: No loud announcements of transaction amounts
  • Accessibility: Easy tracking of daily collections at a glance
  • Sustainability: Solar-powered for energy efficiency and remote usage

Sharma noted that this is especially helpful for vendors who prefer silent confirmation—like shopkeepers in busy markets or professionals offering services in quiet environments.

Vijay Shekhar Sharma on DeepTech, AI & Startup Growth

Aside from the product unveiling, Sharma also addressed the rising debate about India’s status in the global digital sector. In response to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s comparison of India and China’s startup landscapes, Sharma emphasised the importance of deeptech and AI innovation in India.

“India must establish startups in AI, space tech, and deeptech, even if resources are limited. “The opportunity is too big to pass up,” he stated.

Concerning US Tariffs and Indian Startups

When questioned about the impact of growing US tariffs on Indian exports, Sharma acknowledged the issue but remained optimistic.

“There may be short-term consequences on startup investment, but India presents a long-term opportunity. “Global investors will return.

India is currently facing a 26% tax from the United States in reaction to the 52% tariff India levied on American imports.
