India Welcomes US-Russia Alaska Peace Summit 2025 – Hopes Rise for Ukraine Conflict Resolution

India has officially expressed support for the upcoming US-Russia Alaska Peace Summit 2025, scheduled for August 15. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the meeting carries the potential to end the ongoing Ukraine conflict and foster long-term peace in the region.

The summit, to be held in Alaska, will bring together US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin for high-level discussions aimed at resolving one of the most complex geopolitical crises of recent years.

India’s Diplomatic Endorsement

In an official statement, the MEA spokesperson emphasized India’s belief that the summit could pave the way for diplomatic breakthroughs.

“This meeting holds the promise of bringing to an end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and opening up the prospects for peace. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on several occasions, ‘This is not an era of war’,” the spokesperson said.

India reaffirmed its readiness to support peace efforts, underlining its consistent diplomatic stance that disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than conflict.

The announcement came after President Trump revealed on his Truth Social account that the highly anticipated meeting with President Putin will take place on August 15, 2025.

The talks are expected to focus heavily on:

  • Ending the Ukraine conflict through mutually agreeable terms
  • Territorial adjustments that could involve swaps to benefit both sides
  • Security assurances for all involved nations
  • Rebuilding trust among NATO members and Russia

Trump’s Statement on Peace Progress

Speaking at the White House during the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace accord signing, President Trump hinted at progress in negotiations.

“We are getting very close to a deal. Working with European nations, who are terrific people and leaders, is a pleasure through NATO… In all fairness to President Zelensky, he is getting everything he needs, assuming we will get something done,” Trump stated.

He also mentioned that security arrangements delayed the meeting but confirmed that discussions would include potential territory swaps aimed at benefiting both Ukraine and Russia.

Why the Summit Matters for India

India’s endorsement of the US-Russia Alaska Peace Summit 2025 aligns with its broader vision of global stability. With its historical non-alignment policy and growing influence in international diplomacy, India sees this summit as a turning point that could reduce tensions in Europe and beyond.

For India, peace in Ukraine could also have indirect economic benefits by stabilizing energy markets and global trade flows—both of which have been disrupted by the ongoing war.
