US Slaps Up to 245% Tariffs on Chinese Imports, Deepens Economic Standoff
In a bold move to counter Beijing’s retaliatory trade actions, the White House has confirmed the imposition of tariffs reaching up to 245% on Chinese imports. This aggressive step marks one of the highest tariff hikes in recent years, reflecting escalating friction in the ongoing US-China trade war.
White House officials stated that the tariffs are a response to “unfair economic practices and retaliatory measures” taken by China. The updated trade policy is expected to impact a broad range of imports, intensifying pressure on Beijing to return to the negotiating table.
China Responds: ‘We Don’t Seek Confrontation’
In response, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a firm yet diplomatic statement. “We do not seek confrontation, but we will not remain silent in the face of coercion,” said Ministry Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang.
He further criticized Washington’s aggressive approach: “The US cannot achieve greatness through trade bullying. If they truly want resolution, they must halt the pressure tactics.”

The denial came in the wake of media reports linking the Boeing delay to worsening US-China relations. Beijing reiterated its commitment to keeping trade discussions separate from geopolitical tensions.
